United States Vacation
A German family - Mr. Schmidt and his wife Gretchen, older daughter Greta, and 10 year old daughter Geiesle are coming to visit the U.S. Your travel agency has been asked to plan their trip through one of seven U.S. regions. (See map below.)

Your Job: You and your partners at Younameit Travel Agency will research an ideal vacation for the Schmidts. You will present your completed proposal to them and they will select the one that best suits their needs from those submitted by all competing agencies.

Your agency will prepare two parts:

One: a visual product to support your oral presentation such as a:

  • skit or song
  • videotaped commercial
  • poster or brochure
  • slide show using PowerPoint

Two: a planned, practiced oral presentation you and your partners will make to the Schmidts.

EVERY TRAVEL AGENCY will need the information below.

NOTE: Patience, perseverance, and perceptiveness will lead to project success.

Transportation: The Schmidt's plan to return to their cousin George's farm in Missouri at the end of the trip. You'll need to make a transportation plan for each of their next destinations and back to Kansas City. The Schmidts would like variety in their travel. They can travel by plane, train, or rental car. Use the Transportation Worksheet * for this part.

Money: The Schmidts's don't have to worry about money, but would like to know how much this trip is going to cost. Use your expense worksheet to detail their finances. They brought German currency and you need to help them convert German Deutsch Marks into dollars.

Interests: Gretchen loves city life, Greta loves the outdoors, and Geiesle is up for anything, especially if it involves theme parks with roller coasters! In each region the family wants to visit at least:

Time: The family plans to travel for two weeks. Plan an itinerary for their trip. An itinerary is a schedule that shows travel, places, and events of the trip. Use the Generic Calendar * to show the itinerary.

Weather: These folks need to know what to pack for their trip to your region. Get weather forcasts for precipitation and temperature, and any storm warnings.

Regions: Each region of the U.S. is made up of a group of states. Use these links to get information about the states.

You need to complete the Cities, National Park, and Transportation worksheets before you begin your final project. You can do them in any order but have each one checked before you begin the next one.
